About Me

Hi, I'm Sam

MSc Computer Science student at the University of Birmingham, with a background in IT Support and a Bachelor's degree in Politics with History from the University of Liverpool.

My Background

My route into computer science isn't the traditional one. After graduating I moved into IT Support at Cranleigh School. This role quickly grew beyond helpdesk and into improving networking infrastructure, software deployment, and data analysis.

Working closely with the Network Manager and Database Manager exposed me to the kind of technical problem-solving I found genuinely engaging — diagnosing packet loss, analysing network traffic with Wireshark, and building solutions that had real operational impact. That experience made the decision to pursue an MSc in Computer Science a natural next step.

What I'm Doing Now

I'm currently completing an MSc in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, covering modules including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Building Usable Software.

Alongside my studies I'm building real projects including a carbon footprint tracker, an NLP sentiment analysis tool, and this portfolio site itself.

Outside of Tech

When I'm not coding I'll be out on the water sailing, in the gym, playing golf or gaming.
